Walking Directions From Patong Beach
This is the simplest route and the one most visitors use. Stand on Patong Beach at the middle section, near where Bangla Road meets the sand. Turn your back to the sea and walk inland.
Step 1: Cross Thaweewong Road (the beach road). It has traffic in both directions, so use the pedestrian crossings or wait for a gap.
Step 2: Continue straight up the small side street you're now facing β this becomes Prachanukhro Road. You'll pass a few small shops and massage places.
Step 3: After about 150 metres, you'll see the market's distinctive shipping-container architecture on your left. There's a sign in Thai and English above the main entrance.
Total walking time: 3 minutes at a normal pace. If you're pushing a stroller or walking slowly, allow 5 minutes.
Walking Directions From Bangla Road
Bangla Road is the famous nightlife strip in Patong, and a lot of visitors base themselves in that area. From the beach end of Bangla Road, walk south along Rat-U-Thit Road for about 400 metres. You'll pass several 7-Elevens, souvenir stalls and small restaurants.
When you reach the junction with Prachanukhro Road, turn left. Malin Plaza is roughly 100 metres down on your left. Total walk: about 6 to 7 minutes at a relaxed pace.
At night, this walk is well-lit and busy with other pedestrians. Nothing to worry about at all β but watch your step on the paving, which is uneven in places after rain.
Getting to Malin Plaza From Other Parts of Phuket
From Phuket International Airport
The airport is roughly 35 km north of Patong, so this is a proper transfer rather than a short hop. You have three realistic options.
Grab (recommended): 700β900 THB fixed price, 45β60 minutes depending on traffic. Download the Grab app before you arrive β it works immediately on arrival and takes the guesswork out of your first journey. The price shown in the app is what you pay.
Metered taxi from the official taxi stand: 700β1,000 THB including expressway tolls. Make sure the driver uses the meter β if he insists on a flat rate before you get in, that rate should be no higher than what Grab is showing. Airport taxis in Phuket have a reputation for price games, so having Grab as a comparison is genuinely useful.
Shared shuttle bus: About 150β200 THB per person, 60β90 minutes. Drops you at a central Patong point (usually near Jungceylon Mall). From there, a short tuk-tuk ride or a 10-minute walk takes you to Malin Plaza. Cheapest option, but the slowest and least comfortable, especially after a long flight.
From Phuket Town
Phuket Town is 15 km east of Patong. Grab is the easiest option at 200β300 THB and 25β35 minutes. There's also a local songthaew (shared truck) that runs between Phuket Town and Patong for around 30β40 THB per person, but it's slow, stops frequently, and won't drop you right at the market.
From Karon or Kata Beach
Both are south of Patong along the coast road. Grab from Karon to Malin Plaza runs about 120β180 THB and takes 15β20 minutes. From Kata, expect 150β200 THB and 20β25 minutes. Tuk-tuks will quote you 300β500 THB for the same trip β always negotiate before getting in, or just use Grab.
Where to Park If You're Driving
If you've hired a scooter or car, parking near Malin Plaza is possible but not always easy β especially during peak evening hours. The small side streets off Prachanukhro Road usually have spaces along the kerb, and there's a scooter parking area at the northern end of the market.
Be careful where you park. Patong has tow-away zones marked with red-and-white painted kerbs, and enforcement has become stricter in recent years. When in doubt, ask a local vendor or a security guard where it's safe to leave the vehicle.
What's Nearby Malin Plaza
One of the reasons Malin Plaza is so convenient is that almost everything you'd want in Patong is within a short walk. Here's a rough breakdown.
Patong Beach
200 metres west. Three minutes on foot. The main swimming and watersports beach in Phuket.

25 min by GrabThe walk from Patong Beach to Malin Plaza takes about three minutes β one block inland.
Common Mistakes When Finding Malin Plaza
A few things trip people up the first time. Here's what to avoid.
Confusing Malin Plaza with other Patong markets. Patong has several night markets and bazaars, and some drivers will take you to whichever one pays them a commission rather than the one you asked for. Specify "Malin Plaza on Prachanukhro Road" clearly β that name is unique to the market you want.
Using the wrong Google Maps search. Search "Malin Plaza Patong" rather than just "Malin Plaza" β the latter sometimes returns results in other Thai provinces. If the map pin drops you at a beach location rather than a street location, you've got the wrong one.
Walking the wrong direction from the beach. If you walk south along the beach, you'll end up near the quieter southern end of Patong rather than the market. The correct walking direction from the beach is inland (east), not north or south.
Assuming you're too far away. Almost every hotel in central Patong is within a 15-minute walk of Malin Plaza. Before you order a taxi, check Google Maps walking time β you might be much closer than you think.
π¨ Planning where to stay? Hotels within a 5-minute walk of Malin Plaza let you visit multiple evenings and catch both the quiet early hours and the buzzing peak. Compare current rates on Agoda or Trip.com.
Is Malin Plaza Walkable From Every Patong Hotel?
Practically, yes β for most hotels. Patong is a compact town, and the majority of hotels sit within a 1.5 km radius of Malin Plaza. That translates to a 10 to 20 minute walk.
The exceptions are hotels on the northern end of Patong (near Kalim Beach) and properties up on the hillside above town. If your hotel is up a hill, the walk to Malin Plaza will be easy on the way down but steep on the way back. In that case, a short Grab ride (80β120 THB) is money well spent.
Getting Home After the Market
Malin Plaza closes around midnight, and in practice most people leave between 9 and 10:30 PM. If you're staying in central Patong, walking home is fine and safe β the streets are still busy at that hour.
If you're heading further out, Grab works reliably from Malin Plaza until around 11 PM. After that, supply of drivers drops in the Patong area and prices rise slightly. Tuk-tuks are also available around the market entrance, but expect to pay 150β250 THB to nearby areas, which is well above the Grab equivalent.
